so the news came out today that my sd chargers are no longer head-coach-less. =P i can’t believe that rod woodson said on nfl total access that marty was the best man for the job for this upcoming year. i couldn’t disgree more. we are in that magical and extremely rare zone where a ton of our excellent guys are in their PRIME. we can’t keep giving marty year after year to fail and waste all that talent. norv turner’s losing record as a head coach is not very impressive, and neither is his 1-1 post season record. i guess it’s good that he’s already familar with the offense but i guess only time will tell.

Black Star Rising

I enjoyed NFL Network’s Black History Month Special Black Star Rising a lot more than I thought I would. It is not suprising when you think about it though because it combines 2 of my favorite things: football and black history. It was an extremely intelligent account of the history of black nfl players told by the players themselves. They were so eloquent and it was so stirring. There were so many quotable lines. I remember one of my favorite ones: “First we fought for access, then we fought for equality.” There were better ones but I can’t remember them all.

marty schottenheimer finally got fired. i have been waiting for this day to come for several years now and i don’t quite know how to feel now that it’s finally here. i was actually convincing myself that it was a good thing that marty stayed b/c he has a great eye for drafting and is the reason why san diego has LT. However, I don’t feel as good as I thought I would b/c I don’t know if his replacement will be better or worse. At least there’s no more marty ball so I have that to be happy for.

desktop time and more on superbowl XLI

my current desktop:

there has been a lot of talk about how rex grossman is to blame for the bears’ loss, present company included. however, i personally feel that the bears loss on both sides of the ball. the supposedly “great” bears defense did not blitz manning as much as they should have and allowed peyton manning to march down the field with the greatest of ease. on top of that, they allowed rhodes and addai to successfully run draw after draw. here, i would not only blame the coaching which was horrendous, but also the defense; namely the middle linebacker, who is brian urlacher. i have always thought he was overrated but now there is no doubt in my mind that he is overrated.

personally, i am doing okay. last week was really emotionally draining and i have so much crap to juggle right now with my two jobs, trying to get into shape, studying for the lsat, trying to maintain a relationship with someone who works a million hours a week, and grieving with my family for the death of my uncle. tonight i went to the gym at 10pm and ran for 2 miles. it feels really good. i’m not sure how great i’ll feel tomorrow though since i have to wake up in about 5 or 6 hours and work another 10 or so.

2006 In Review / The Chicago Bears

a little late but…

In 2006 everything changed and 2006 changed everything. my life was turned upside down. i had the most extreme highs and lows that i’ve ever experienced.

    LOWS

(all this stuff happen in the course of less than 6 months)
1. I left my church of 8 years.
2. I ended an 8 year relationship with my ex.
3. My parents got divorced.
4. My family sold the house that i grew up in for the last 15 years.
5. I lost my job.
6. I lost my dog.
7. I had 2 surgeries.

Wow what a fun 6 months. dumped, fired, homeless, and physically unable to function. add the family drama and you’ve got yourself hell on earth.

Then, all of a sudden:

    HIGHS

1. I got a job that pays way more than my last and a much better assignment.
2. I got an apartment and new town that I love.
3. I got a new boyfriend.
4. I learned that anything short of what i went through earlier in the year is a reason to celebrate life b/c “at least it wasn’t like the way it was back then!”

Now, I’m somewhere inbetween. My life is far from perfect and there’s still so many seemingly unanswerable questions that I ask myself on a daily basis. I guess i should listen to what i tell my students: don’t give up when you don’t “succeed” the first time b/c “mistakes” are just a step closer to success. Cheesy but i really believe in it. anyway, i wouldn’t change a thing. i grew so much, learned so much about myself and life, and would not be anywhere near as happy a person i am today had it not been for the difficult valleys that i endured earlier in the year.

————————————————————————————————

In 1985, I was five years old, living in uptown chicago and watched my first playoff/superbowl series and the 1985 Chicago Bears. McDonald’s promised the entire city free big macs if the bears won and as if the bears winning the superbowl wasn’t reason enough to celebrate, free big macs were. the entire city was in an uproar. everyone sang and danced along to the Superbowl Shuffle and life was great. i remember the news reporting that the number of 911 calls and crimes plummeted during the exact time and date of the superbowl in the city. it was frickin amazing. even as a five year old refugee who didn’t know a word of english i knew this was a special day that was going to go down in history not only of the nfl and the city of chicago, but every chicago citizen who was there when IT happened.

Therefore, I’m sure that it will come as no surprise to you that I am rooting for the chicago bears for the superbowl. I am STILL not over the fact that the chargers flushed their chances down the toilet in an avalanche of stupid coaching decision but if i have to pick a second choice, it would most definitely be chicago. as far as predictions, i really don’t know who will win or which team will have the “edge.” i honestly don’t respect the colts that much b/c of their conservative style of offense and easy ass joke of a division so yeah. *shrugs* plus, i hate all mannings since eli rejected the chargers b/c in the 2000 (?) draft.

if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em. i’ve been really into myspace this weekend. i decided to give it a real try and so far it’s proved to be pretty addicting. i made a new layout but i don’t like it but at least now i know how to customize it with a header and stuff. myspace is pretty fun. i’m myspace.com/misstechie

i’m glad the bears are going to the superbowl!!! go bears! i really hope they win. currently watching the indy-pats game. it’s pretty good so far. it’s surprisingly nice to watch a game and not care who wins.

as you can probably tell, i was super unproductive this weekend. =/

the #1 seed in the AFC

the league MVP

9 pro bowlers

the opposing qb throws 3 interceptions

we lost and it was marty bowl all over again.

how can you have the fucken league mvp and give him a mere EIGHT TOUCHES in the entire second half? why would you continue to depend on the recieving core that had over 9 dropped passes? MARTY SCHOTTENHEIMER IS A FUCKEN IDIOT. That’s one of many reasons your pathetic post season record is 5-13.

FIRE MARTY AND NATE!!!!!

seeing those fucking classless low life patriots rub it in LT’s face after the game was just too much to take.

i am utterly depressed.

i’m overdue for a post but i don’t have anything to write about.

this week is back to school night which has been a great source of stress for me.

monday night football in new orleans was very emotional for me to watch. today, i saw spike lee’s documentary When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts. I saw the end of part 1 and all of part 2. i really want to go to new orleans and help in some way. i’m looking into habitat for humanity. since i’m a teacher, maybe i can start a club and the students and i can raise money and go. i did not want to blog this because i will look like such a turd if i never do it but only think about it but oh well.

Sorry, Steelers!!!

Steelers got their asses handed to them Monday Night in front of the whole country!!!!! BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAH!!!! I’ve never enjoyed such a low scoring game in my life! Yes, it’s true. I hate the steelers. I’ve hated the steelers ever since they beat the chargers last october in san diego on monday night. payback’s a bitch. i can’t wait for next week’s match up against the bengals. talk about a bitter rivalry. this TOTALLY made up for the face that my fantasy team did dismal this week.

i got my cabbage patch doll her first outfit:

mermaids have always been my favorite “fantasy” characters. not so much fairies, or dwarves, or anything like that.

Finally, the news about Darfur is so freaking depressing. It’s been on and off my mind today as i was reading about the over 200,000 killed and over 2 million homeless so far. I saw The Constant Gardener a week or 2 ago and the movie started out in Kenya and then ended in Sudan. Man, Sudan is so freaking beautiful! The geography, the people, the culture. There’s no place like it on earth. Seriously breath taking.

an example of a beautiful sudan woman wearing sudan jewelry.

Anyway, it is so heartbreaking and terrifying to know that the bruality is just so ugly and horrendous. i am seriously afraid to look at the pictures of the MUTILATED WOMEN and CHILDREN. My goodness, I cannot imagine living life with such imminent danger. I was sad and happy to hear about the protests in central park. I was happy to hear that people are protesting what the sudanese government is allowing to happen to their people but i am sad that i didn’t know about this sooner because i would’ve serioiusly considering being part of it myself. I’m glad it’s in the news and people are forced to read about it and think about it. however, it’s sad to know that our media sterilizes everything we read and hear to such an extent that i would hardly consider it a good source of world news. anyway, i don’t know how this posted started out about the steelers and ended up being about sudan but i guess that’s the way the ball bounces when the blog belongs to a freak like me.
