who’s the bigger idiot?

  • Jul. 20th, 2009 at 1:47 AM

i recently had a conversation with with my cousin samantha where she admitted to following taylor swift’s tweets. this opened up a whole new universe of celebrity tweets to me that i had not realized was there. also, i don’t consider myself a grammar nazi for a couple of reasons. first, my grammar is not perfect and i am fully aware of my shortcomings. second, when i see other people identify themselves as grammar nazis, i find it pitiful, annoying, and self-aggrandizing, all at the same time.

that said, celebrities have not failed to shock me with how horrible their basic skills are. for example, kim kardashian doesn’t know the difference between “monkeys” and “monkey’s” because she uses “monkey’s” as the plural form of “monkey.” whatever, right? except i am pretty sure she went to college. oh well. today, i just saw lauren conrad confuse “then” with “than” as in “It’s possible I did more damage then good…” Nice one. She too, I believe, is college educated.

however, perhaps i am the bigger idiot for following these idiots’ tweets in the first place. *shrugs.*

THE SIMS 3! THE SIMS 3!

    • May. 21st, 2009 at 7:35 PM

omfg! the sims 3 comes out june 2 for pc/mac/iphone. clear my calendar for the rest of the year…

OFFICIAL PLOG SIMS 3 RELEASE COUNTDOWN:

i remember the day the sims 2 came out: I was waiting in line at best buy and then realizing that there were a bunch of other nerdy girls in line with me and we were all holding the same game. still, i didn’t care. i would suffer public humility once again to play the sims 3!

I saw this commercial on tv w/ my bf last night and i fell in love with it. it is just so cute. my bf thought it was strange that i was so taken by a toilet paper ad but who could resist this?

Originally, I started twittering a few years ago because i love the user interface of twitterific. then i stopped twittering because the twitter server was always slow and overloaded. the next thing i know, years go by and everyone’s on twitter. i decided to start twittering again since i’ve brought back my blog but found that i had since deleted twitterific.

since i’ve brought back my blog, i’ve been using bluebird with liz’s nuvola 1.2 theme. i like the interface of bluebird a lot too but it is actually kind of hard to use and i don’t like how it only shows my posts and people’s replies to my posts but not of the other twitter feeds i follow.

so tonight, i looked at my twitter page to see what other programs people used to twitter with and downloaded a couple for myself. mainly, i was looking for a nice interface, easy to use, easy to read other people’s updates, and the ability to cross-post on my facebook/gchat status updates.

the first program i downloaded is twhirl . the interface has a lot of potential. i like that they have many different color schemes to choose from. however, the fonts were not anti-aliased and it made the otherwise nice interface look like shit on leopard. i also liked how you could easily read other people’s updates and reply to them. however, there wasn’t a link to their blogs directly from the program, which is something available on twitterific. it also didn’t allow to me to cross post on anything else. overall, i couldn’t stand the anti-aliasing so i am going to pass on twhirl.

the second program i checked out is twitterfon. i have yet to test drive this app because i had to delete some playlists, etc, from my iphone (which is doesn’t have enough room for all my shit anymore) and it’s taking forever so i guess i will give you my thoughts on this app another day.

the final program i had time to check out tonight is eventbox. the selling point for eventbox is that it helps you manage a number of social statuses at once. the ones that i use include twitter, facebook, and flickr. however, unlike twitter or twhirl, eventbox is huge and unlike the other two, the interface is really plain and kind of ugly (think mail program). i guess it’s good for content but there’s really nothing else going for it besides the functionality. i quickly nixed it.

lastly, i downloaded twitterific again. i felt like the prodigal son. back to the original, and as far as i’m concerned, still the best. bluebird does give it a run for its money. bluebird is cleaner, had a great looking icon, and i love the notification sound. i also like how you can download skins for bluebird. i think i will use both for now until i settle on one or find something better altogether.

    not over it

    • Apr. 30th, 2009 at 10:53 AM

i’m not over my disappointment from yesterday’s property exam. i hate sucking at things when it was totally preventable!

on a brighter note, my brother sent me the funniest im yesterday:

6:52:41 PM Storm: apparently mom wants me 2 pack u a whole suitcase load of noodles

not gonna lie, i think igoogle is pretty awesome. i’ve never made anything my homepage until now. that’s how sweet it is. i especially love the excellent Edward Monkton designs. too bad i can’t get his awesome screensaver to work on my computer. :(

    i’m back!

    • Apr. 29th, 2009 at 5:25 PM

after an 8 month hiatus from my blog, i’ve returned. First, I’d like to review this new nail polish that I tried. Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Fast Dry Nail Color. it’s really amazing simply because it actually works. i’ve never experienced nail polish like this before. i was actually a salon brand snob usually only wearing OPI or Essie. However, i got really sick of waiting for that stuff to dry. it takes so long that i end up losing patience and then ruining at least a couple of fingers. Long story short, it really really sucks. when i saw this product at Rite Aid, i had to try it. to my surprise, it works great! you only need ONE COAT. it really couldn’t be any easier or more amazing, imo. :) also, it is lasting a long time. i’ve had it on since saturday and now it’s wednesday and there are no noticeable chips. i really love this product. it’s so cheap at $5 a bottle. i really want to get every color they make. i totally recommend this. it’s a life saver for people who don’t have time or patience (like me) but want pretty nails! god, i sound like a commercial.

Also, how f-en depressing is this???!

    i am speechless.

also, not to complain incessantly or anything, but some crazy guy has been singing in the street for the last half hour. it’s really annoying. i can hear him and i’m 12 stories up.

    slight retraction

    • Sep. 24th, 2008 at 5:45 PM

today, i saw cnet’s video of the t-mobile g1 phone and i have to say that it looks a lot more promising than what i expected after yesterday’s story on pc world. it has a slide out QWERTY keyboard which is pretty cool. i like the iphone, but it is a pain typing on that on-screen keyboard. i think i would be able to get my texts out much faster on a tactile keyboard. second, the software interface is a lot nice than i thought. it’s still not as nice as the iphone’s and a lot of the best features of the os is copied directly from iphone. i still don’t think it’s much of a competitor but it’s nicer than i previously thought.

    another supposed iphone competitor

    • Sep. 23rd, 2008 at 5:43 PM

pc world wants us to believe that iphone has another competitor. the only thing i came away believing after reading that story is that pc world is running out of things to write about and creating a competition where there isn’t one. honestly, i’m not one of those iphone die-hards who doesn’t have an objective view of the iphone. sometimes i love my iphone, but other times, i hate it. the bottom line is that i know it’s not perfect and i don’t even know if i would buy another iphone when mine needs replacing. i am very lukewarm about it. additionally, i would only recommend it with reservation depending on what the person wants.

anyway, i’m not some iphone nut but even i can see that this phone is no competitor. first of all, the hardware and software looks like shit. it looks like a phone that came out 5 years a ago. if you’re going to compete with the iphone, you need to have revolutionary design and software interface. you can’t just add few features that the iphone has (and has a better version of) to something everyone’s already seen before. second, the specs on the iphone are better in almost every way (except the camera). the only difference is that this phone has an open platform meaning you can add whatever you want on it without itunes. big whoop.

i’m sure this is a good phone for certain people but it’s not even close to being an iphone competitor like pc world would want us to believe. i’m so sick of hearing about these phones coming up that are marketed to compete with the iphone and doing a half assed job of it. stop wasting everyone’s time and trying to set up a “competition” where there isn’t one.

    new software

    • Sep. 20th, 2008 at 2:17 AM

i recently started using circus ponies notebook for classes and note-taking. i actually really like it. it has dividers, and an index of every word you’ve type in the notebook. there are a bunch of different paper styles and expanding outlines that you can open can close and move points around. i don’t know if i’m making too much sense right now. this is pretty half-assed review. bottom-line is that i like it. if you’re wondering how it might be different from word for macs, i probably wouldn’t be the best person to ask because my version of word is not the latest (which i’ve heard is a little better for note-taking). anyway, i like this program and would recommend it. :)

i’ve also updated to wordpress 2.6.2.

i also started a subscription to mozy as a means to back up my files. i am too cheap and lazy to buy an external drive even though os x has timemachine. plus, i always feel like it’s not that secure cause something can always physically damage the hard drive. *shrugs* so far, mozy’s not that great. it’s really really slow (like days) to upload my files. it sucks. it takes forever.

anyway, i got some new glasses! well, i just ordered them. i haven’t gotten them yet.

    sleep is elusive

    • Jul. 12th, 2008 at 3:25 AM

i made a new layout. it’s not really new, i copied the concept from a layout i made two years ago for my livejournal. this one did not take as long to make as the old one. i did it because i’m stressed out about making moving plans and moving across the country and couldn’t sleep. i’m not really done with it but i am going to sleep now. the old one left me feeling overexposed and now that i’m getting really busy with moving and stuff, i’m not going to be updating as often. the old layout is no longer reflective of my current mood.

okay, i was gonna say more things but i forgot so i’m going to sleep now. goodnight.

    dwight schrute

    • May. 27th, 2008 at 12:25 AM

dwight schrute is my favorite character on the office by a mile! i love this character! he is my stud of the week for the week of may 25. in fact, he is one of my favorite television characters i’ve seen in a looong time. :) the reason being is that every time he comes on the screen i usually end up cracking up or at least smiling happily. even the the thought of him cracks me up. everything about him is funny: his name, his face, his personality, his oblivion of his social inadequacies, undying loyalty to the idiot boss, and just his mannerisms. in a lot of ways, he’s supposed to be “the bad guy” or at least, “the unlovable guy”, but that is the beauty of dwight: in his attempt to make himself unlovable, he becomes the most lovable character on the show. well, to me anyway. maybe it’s because i’m weird.

speaking of i’m weird-type statements, i have faithfully continued my mission of finding new blogs to read. i was completely unarmed and have forgotten what an annoying group of people bloggers can be. i visited at least 20 new blogs today and while there were many great ones, there were just as many completely lame ones. one thing that tied all the lame ones in common were the introductions: “i’m weird” “i’m strange” “i’m different”. they all thought they were the only unique person who had a blog or something. or maybe i was irked because upon reading their generic entries, they weren’t interesting, strange, weird, or whatever else they claimed to be in their introductions. they were just boring. sorry but i had to say it.

anyway, sorry i got off topic. i think i was done talking about dwight anyway.

    this is cool

    • Mar. 30th, 2008 at 10:08 PM

the last time i recommended websites, apparently everyone else has known about them for years so it might not be any different here but i just downloaded Firefox 3 Beta and am running it tonight:

anyway, my favorite thing about this is the awesome new interface. it’s like safari but better. i didn’t like firefox as much before b/c of the clunky interface (i know you can download other skins but i am too lazy to do it). well, i’ve just started using it so i don’t much else to say about it yet.

i also bought a mouse today. for the last couple years i’ve done all my computing on my laptop with only my trackpad to navigate with. i’ve grown comfortable with this but i decided it is time for an upgrade. i just got something simple: the Microsoft Optical Mouse “3000″. the laptop mice were cuter but they felt small and cramped in my hand so i went for a desktop mouse. i wanted a wireless one and i liked microsoft mice the best but their wireless mice required me to plug in this huge signal base which kind of defeated the purpose of not having wires because the signal base was even more cumbersome. anyway, i’m loving my new mouse! surfing the internet hasn’t been this fun since broadband! hahaha!

    things i learned recently

    • Mar. 20th, 2008 at 8:54 PM

    - the iphone is more resilient than people make it out to be. i know this because the other day i dropped my iphone. HARD. it’s okay though. i guess my new phone passed the Drop Test. i hope to write a detailed review of the iphone if my laziness doesn’t get the best of me.

    - i learned that potholes cause an average of $800 a year of damages to tires in the city of los angeles. the road i take to work has two lanes. i like to be in the left lane because it’s faster but there’s seriously over 5 miles straight of nothing but potholes. now i drive on the right lane along with everybody’s grandma. :(

    - my website is a boring piece of shit. i’m actually ashamed of it because i put little to no effort in making it good. this is what i do in my downtime so i don’t try. i don’t know. i can’t explain it. anyway, this is why i took down all my old links.

    I GOT AN IPHONE!

    • Feb. 28th, 2008 at 11:30 PM

after 6 months of waiting for my contract w/ verizon to expire, i finally got my iphone today!!! :D :D :D unfortunately, it’s taking forever to port my number from verizon so i haven’t been able to use it yet. three and a half hours of waiting and counting…

someone asked me why i am stressed. well, i am moving out of my apartment next weekend under less than ideal conditions and that is probably the main reason. things are finally panning out with my new plans and my new place so the stress level has gone down considerably.

this stress is causing major breakouts. i had more breakouts in the the past week than i had in the past 6 months. :( hopefully my face and my problems will clear up soon.

    haircut and recommended sites

    • Jan. 7th, 2008 at 7:06 PM

    + Stumbleupon.com
is this cool firefox add-on that allows you to pick categories that you’re interested in and then it presents you different sites, pictures, and videos from all over the web that match your interests. Then, you can give stumbleupon’s finds thumbs up or thumbs down so it knows to find more like that particular item. one of my favorite things about stumbleupon is that you can write and read other people’s reviews of the sites that you “stumble” on. anyway, it’s cool. you have to try it to really understand. it’s a great thing when you have some time to kill or only have a short amount of time for a break. one of my new favorite places on the web for sure.

    + Pandora.com
ever since i started using iTunes music player, i couldn’t be less interested in another source of music. then pandora came along and changed everything. i actually “stumbled” upon pandora and remembered reading some really good reviews of it so i thought i’d play around with it. i am hooked. i actually tried to pandora from work today but the damn IT guys seriously block out all the fun stuff. anyway, you basically type in an artist or song that you like and it creates a “radio station” of other songs and artists that are a similar flavor. you get to rate its suggestions and/or skip to the next suggestion. i actually found several new songs to download from only my first visit to this place. anyway, i don’t know if it’s java or flash or what but the interactive animation is to die for. so fun to use! easy on the eyes, ears, and usability. i guess i can’t say enough about this place.
