false advertising

jcrew
has been my favorite store for as long as i can remember. i love how i can build a whole closet of classic pieces from jcrew and the styles are timeless and the quality lasts and lasts. however, they’ve been getting on my nerves in recent years. mostly, it comes from some strange desire to be couture-like. for example, they started charging close to $200 for a pair of jeans. don’t get me wrong - i will spend $200 for a pair of jeans, but i will never ever pay more than $60 on a pair of jcrew jeans. sorry, it’s not designer, and it sure as hell isn’t couture. i feel like as the years as gone by (i sound so old), jcrew has gotten more and more overpriced and i don’t think it’s because i haven’t caught up with the rate of inflation. i just think too much of their shit is overpriced.

so the other day, i went the jcrew website for some reason and i see this ad. and i think, “wow, that flower is pretty. i want to buy it.” and then i read under the picture “we use these one of a kind flowers just for our shoot. we simply couldn’t resist (not available for purchase).” first of all, whoever wrote that is a fucken douchebag. no one gives a fuck what you can or cannont “resist.” at that point, my propensity for impatience and anger kicks in and i get pissed. like, wtf? I came to this website to CONSUME, not to read about some self-indulgent marketing exec’s inability to resist shit. why do they have that flower as the centerpiece for their summer 2009 website, emails (i was gonna let this one go but then had had to fucken email me that same picture), and you can’t even buy it! it reminded me of how plain and boring their designs can be (i know, the double-edged sword for “classic” pieces).

anyway, maybe i am too easily annoyed. maybe i have nothing better to blog about. i understand how advertising works but i just wanted to rant about this lame ass company and their lame ass ad.

for the record, jcrew jeans are awesome. (no, i am not biploar, but i play someone who is on tv).

this is too much

associated press article

what the hell is going on? i always knew politicians were cut-throat, but i always thought it was figuratively so. i am completely sickened that people who would encourage such unnecessary panic and anger just to win an election might be given the keys to the executive branch. instead of being a source of hope, mcpalin pushes them to their emotional extremes. look dudes, you already have these peoples’ vote, you don’t need to scare the shit out of them too. you don’t need to paint obama as an arab terrorist who will put an end to life as we know it. this type of “campaigning” isn’t going to win you independent votes, which is what you need at this point.

it’s so dirty. i’ve never ever seen such mean-spirited campaigning. i’m disgusted.

roy’s hawaiian fushion

  • Jun. 24th, 2008 at 10:19 AM

this is my second time at roy’s. the first i went, i had these lobster pots-tickers and this duck dish. the duck dish was not that great but the lobster pot-stickers were awesome. i think i ate two orders of the stuff. they were seriously some of the best pot-stickers i’ve ever had in m life. i went back to roy’s this past sunday and got the pot-stickers again but this time it was just okay. it was weird how much the quality changed. i also order the dish pictured above which is this shrimp dish with a fried egg and fried rice. it was much better than the duck. the shrimp were perfectly cooked and flavored and the fried rice had crunchy bits of carrot. i liked the crunch. it was good. now my mouth is watering.

pics from sd

  • Jun. 22nd, 2008 at 6:27 PM

went to sd last night on impulse and took pics of the time there today. first thing we did was eat at a place called george’s at the cove. i’ve been on an ahi tuna kick lately. yesterday, after the beach, we ate at the lazy dog cafe and i had the ahi tuna sandwich and it was so delicious. today, i decided to get the ahi tuna with soba noodles. it was really good but a little salty. my friend got shrimp tacos with mango salsa… we both thought it was just okay. here’s a pic:

our view of the water from where we were sitting wasn’t that great but here’s a pic anyway:

then, we walked around the cove and took the following pictures:

here i am sporting my hot new sunburn and tanlines:

after the cove, we went to this placed called extraordinary desserts. we didn’t think they were that great but here are some pictures anyway:

japanese dolls on the counter ($20 - $75+). i thought they were jars and i tried to take the heads off but i guess they are just for decoration so the heads don’t really come off. :/

these are the desserts beneath the counter holding the japanese dolls:

the desserts we ordered (from top left: passion cake, creme brulee, cheesecake, brownie [don't know the fancy names they gave them]):

the best was the passion cake and the worst was the brownie.

all pictures in this post was taken on my iphone.

pictures from last sunday

  • Mar. 22nd, 2008 at 9:40 AM

guess what? i lost my canon elph that i just bought two months ago in my move. :( :( :( fuck! fuck! fuck! hopefully it pops up soon even though i seriously looked EVERYWHERE. i am so sad. i am emotionally attached to that thing! it was the first camera i bought myself in like 5 years and it was my companion for my trip to cambodia and thailand. oh god, i’m getting depressed. i don’t want to think about it anymore.

now we are stuck my iphone as my only source for picture taking. the iphone camera is really really good but it can’t replace my elph!!!!

anyway…

as i mentioned in an earlier post, i went to brunch and shopping in santa monica last sunday. i finally got off my lazy a$$ and upload the pictures. here they are:

don’t take pictures on your iphone when you’re crossing the street… unless you’re me.

excellent view of a parking lot and a crappy view of santa monica pier in the background.

shutters hotel and restaurant. who would pay $400 a night to stay that this place? apparently, jennifer aniston. naw, actually, it looks a lot better in real life than it does in the picture and the is inside even nicer.

i don’t know how to explain this one except by saying i was really impressed by toilet paper. :/

a shutters restaurant table setting

our view of the beach from the restaurant which is currently be blocked by our waitress. she was nice.

my drinks

my cat roxy… just because. trust me, she loves this.
