I've decided that I shall have to track down [info]quipquipquip and force Suikoden III on her like a venereal disease. She will probably fall asleep before we get to the good parts.

***

But for the important part of this post!! I decided for one of my resolutions I am going to try to read more books, because I've fallen out of the habit. So help me, Flist-wan Kenobi!! Vous êtes ma seule espérance!! Give me book recommendations.

What I like to read! )

new year, new pipe

  • Jan. 3rd, 2010 at 10:44 AM

Christmas holidays: OK. New years: Zzzzz. Spent Christmas at home with Jeff and Mewes. We left on Boxing Day and drove to New Brunswick. Slept in Edmundston. We got to Halifax, NS on the 27th. We stayed with Jeff's parents. He and I fought as always. His parents pulled me aside and said I have to get Jeff skinny. I've been trying to do that for years... I finally convinced Jeff for us to go to the gym. We're going to scope places this week.

I missed Mewes a lot. Jeff and I discussed during the drive whether or not Mewes would miss us. Like if his brain capacity allowed him to notice we were gone for a time and that he had feelings of loneliness. Turns out he missed us crazy bad! As soon as we got home he was meowing like crazy and rubbing himself all over us. When we sat down he'd immediately jump in our lap and purr like mad. He's been like this for a couple days now. <3

Not looking forward to going back to work tomorrow. I'm tired of this writer. He gets on my nerves. But the work is easy as shit so I should shut the fuck up.

Going to finally cut off my hair and donate it this month. Making the appointment this week. Gunna try out http://www.parloursalon.com Google IMG Search 'Sarah Harding'. That pixie cut is what I'm going to ask for; assuming it suits me. It's hard for me to visualize haircuts.

I just joined and thought I would say hi. I'm a K-6 teacher in Sydney Australia.
We're on summer holidays at the moment, but on Jan 27th we go back for a new school year and instead of getting a shiny new class, lucky me gets to keep the class from hell for another full year. Oh joy. The hoops we jump through for government funding.
Anyhow, hope you all had a happy holiday season and thee kids treat you right.
:)

Coworkers

  • Jan. 2nd, 2010 at 11:00 PM
I work with the most spectacular people. I mean that in the best way possible. Some are nice. Some not so nice. Some are considerate. Most are very professional. The one I work with the most is probably the one I like the best. Not to say I don't enjoy having a break or two from her company now and then.

First day I meet her is at a county-wide paperwork extravaganza. The new teachers are all gathered in the main office, pens at the ready, with our new insurance options open to us. We go around the room introducing ourselves, saying what we teach and where we'll teach it. I see her in the front. When it's time to break for lunch I try and make conversation. She ignores me for the most part. We'll be teaching the same subject, you see so I thought it best that we meet. She had more important things on her mind, apparently.

A week or so in; we're making a syllabus. I'm typing it and she's watching me. Several times during my typing, she takes the mouse away from me and copies and pastes something using the buttons at the top of the screen. I try and tell her I can copy and paste myself, but she has a habit of talking, pausing, then starting to talk again after you've formed your reply. And she won't stop either. She'll kinda bulldoze right over you. At one point, we copy and paste something twice. She's looking for the mistake, trying to grab the mouse again.

"Wait. I know what to delete." I say, but she's bulldozing over me again. "Listen. Listen to me." I start to say.

"Fine! Delete whatever you want to, John!" Then she storms out of the room.

I learned that she really likes to be in control. She tells me later that she doesn't see her husband during the week very often. I wonder if the two are related.

At the end of the year, I write a letter to the administration detailing why she should be teacher of the year. She doesn't get it  - mostly because she teaches Spanish, and we can't give awards to people whose subject matter isn't on the CRCT. I show her the paper after the awards are announced.

"Aw thanks, John." She says. Only she says it after she says, "You used the wrong 'there' in this sentence."

HAPPY NEW YEAR! 2010!

  • Jan. 2nd, 2010 at 12:28 AM

My first entry for 2010! :) I still can't believe how fast 2009 flew by.. I'm still trying to sink everything in. It's a new year and hopefully new beginnings. Usually, during this time of year, I make a list of resolutions for the upcoming year, but this year I'm not going to make any. I think by the age of 27, I have figured out all my strengths and weaknesses so I'm basically going to concentrate on that - instead of making random resolutions that I know I won't be able to do.

A few notable resolutions that I'd like to improve on are:

1. Save money
2. Eat healthy
3. Workout! (I'm basically paying for my gym's electricity!)
4. Be more patient
5. No more road rage
6. Go out less (spend more ME time)
7. Expand circle of friends

That's basically it. Anyway, how is everyone? I'll update with my Brunei/Malaysia pictures once I settle into the new year - it just feels so surreal. I've been sleeping a LOT since I got back. Anyway.. HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone!

On Xmas Day, Zhu Zhu pet claimed it's first victim, my niece and a clump of her hair. I guess she wondered what it would be like to play on her head ... ?

On the same day, someone must've barfed in my client's Wheaties. All I can say is that it was triggered by our boss, without checking in with us first, and after we had all left for the holiday, agreeing and suggesting that a few changes would be able to happen over the holiday weekend.

There was absolutely no reason for work to be done over the holiday weekend and what they wanted changed was not part of the original schedule and involved major updates. In the end, after over 40 emails were exchanged, we agreed that work would start again on Monday. Absolutely ridiculous.

Today, same client was just as cranky, if not more so. Demanded to know when his changes would be delivered. Uh hello, we agreed to start on things today, not that it would be delivered today. End of day tomorrow just was not good enough for him.

Otherwise, December has been busy but nice for me. Had a great birthday, tried a few new places -- Caracas Arepa Bar for delicious arepas (order the De Pabellón, avoid the De Pollo!), tajadas (fried sweet plaintains with aged cheese) and refreshing Papelón con limón drink.

Also, tried Pichet Ong's new dessert place, Spot (lovely decor, ok desserts) and finally stopped at Momofuku's Milk Bar to sample a few of their cakes and cookies. My faves being the compost cookie and chocolate chip cake with passion fruit curd layers and coffee buttercream. Delicious!

For New Year's, have been invited to a few parties, but since I've been working crazy hours/projects lately, am leaning towards a quiet evening catching up on my reading and dvds. Will see what I am in the mood for later this week.
